Fenham
Unpopular flats in Birchvale Avenue have been demolished and we are now looking to redevelop the site with a mixed tenure scheme including accommodation for the elderly to rent.

Landlords and tenants across our area can now access free support and advice on anything to do with the private rented sector.

Elswick
We fund the North Benwell Neighbourhood Management Initiative. It is led by Home Housing and supported by Newcastle City Council, to deliver better services in the area by working closely with lots of different agencies.

Working with Northumbria Police and local street wardens has already resulted in a 36% drop in crime from July 03 to 04. Over 70 empty properties have also been brought back into use.

In partnership with New Deal for Communities we are looking at how to regenerate the Cruddas Park multi storey tower blocks and are considering the best ways to invest in and plan for the future of Northbourne Street, Rye Hill, Jubilee and St Paul’s estates. We are calling all of this work the ‘Elswick Study'.

A Neighbourhood Renewal Assessment (NRA) has been completed in Elswick
Triangle (this is linked to the NRA in Arthur’s Hill). It will be declared a renewal area in early 2005. This means……

And in the ‘Alphabet Streets’ we are carrying out a NRA to help plan the best ways to invest in the area.
We are looking at different ways to improve the choice of housing and the layout of the Gill Street Estate so people are encouraged to stay and move into the area.
Landlords and tenants across our area can now access free support and advice on anything to do with the private rented sector.

Residents affected by clearance are being offered attractive relocation packages like homeswap and relocation grants. The Relocation Team works one to one with residents to help them access the right support and information.

This means these areas will benefit from a co-ordinated team who will help solve some of the problems in the area and that there will be funding for improvements to homes, the local environment and community facilities.
